(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - India’s social activist, Anna Hazare, who was fasting unto death from August 16 at Ram Lila ground in New Delhi demanding the anti-corruption bill, Saturday night announced to break his fast on Sunday morning at 1000 hours IST (Indian Standard Time).
The announcement came at Saturday night after Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit drove to the agitation venue and handed over a letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Hazare conveying the 'Sense of the House'.
In his communication to Hazare, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveyed to him that Parliament has passed a resolution on the three issues raised by him and appealed to him to call off his fast.
Immediately after Parliament agreed to Anna Hazare's three key demands on Lokpal Bill, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent him a letter conveying the same and urged the crusader to give up his 12-day fast.
'As you know, Parliament today discussed the Lokpal related issues. You will be happy to know that both Houses of Parliament have passed a resolution on the three points raised by you,' Singh said in the letter which was handed over to Hazare by Deshmukh.
The Prime Minister told Anna that according to this resolution, Parliament has in principle agreed on the three points namely citizen's charter, lower bureaucracy to be under Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism and establishment of Lok Ayuktas in states.
“Parliament has also resolved to send today's proceedings to the Department-related Standing Committee for its perusal while formulating its recommendations,' he said.
74 year-old Anna Hazare, has been on fast since August 16, demanding the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill by Parliament, is the face of India’s fight against corruption. People from all walks of life are supporting him in the hundreds swelling to the thousands.
